Introduction

If you have made it through all six previous modules of this course, you have covered the theoretical knowledge needed for Professional Scrum certifications. This final lesson prepares you for the certification exams themselves — format, strategy, and common traps.

Scrum.org Certification Overview

All exams are online, open-book (yes, you can refer to the Scrum Guide), and available 24/7. You pay once and take the exam when you are ready. If you fail, you must pay again.

Study Strategy

1. Read the Scrum Guide cover to cover. Every word matters. The exam tests your understanding of what the Guide says, not what you think Scrum should be.
2. Read the Kanban Guide (for PSK I) and EBM Guide (for PAL-EBM).
3. Take the free Scrum Open assessments on Scrum.org. These are practice quizzes that use the same question format as the real exam. Take them repeatedly until you score 100% consistently.
4. Review this course’s exercises. Our scenario-based exercises mirror the type of thinking the exam requires.
5. Understand, don’t memorize. The exam tests understanding, not recall. If you understand why Scrum works the way it does, you can answer any question.

Common Exam Traps

• “Best answer” questions: Multiple answers may seem correct. Choose the one most aligned with the Scrum Guide, not with your organization’s practice.
• Scrum Guide vs. real world: The exam tests Scrum Guide knowledge, not real-world compromises. “We do it differently at my company” is never the right answer.
• Absolute language: Be wary of answers containing “always,” “never,” or “must” — unless the Scrum Guide uses that exact language.
• Role confusion: Know exactly what each accountability (PO, SM, Developers) is responsible for. Many questions test whether you assign responsibilities correctly.
• Time pressure: 80 questions in 60 minutes = 45 seconds per question. Don’t overthink. Your first instinct (if grounded in the Guide) is usually correct.
